For sellers

List your credits once. Sell to buyers worldwide.

CTX gives project developers and credit holders a spot market that never closes. You set the price, buyers pay cash, and your proceeds settle on the day of the trade.

Who sells on CTX

If you hold certified credits, you can list them.

Sellers on the exchange are registered companies. Most are project developers selling their own issuance; others are holding credits they no longer need.

Project developers

Your project is certified and issuing credits. List them on the exchange and reach buyers in every time zone, without finding and contracting each one yourself.

Credit holders and traders

You bought credits you no longer need, or you trade them for a living. Any credits in your registry account that have not been retired can be listed and sold.

Large developers and brokers

Selling at institutional scale? Corporate One is an invite-only account for large international developers and offtake brokers, with one flat fee per credit.

Why list on CTX

Get paid on the day you sell, every time.

Selling credits privately means chasing buyers, negotiating each deal and waiting to be paid. On the exchange, the buyer has already funded the trade before it happens.

Guaranteed proceeds, no counterparty risk

Buyers pay from funded accounts, and CTX connects directly to the registries, so credits and cash change hands together. Every trade settles the same day (T+0), and payment to the seller is guaranteed. There is no counterparty or non-delivery risk on either side.

A global pool of buyers

Companies, brokers and institutions buy on CTX around the clock, 365 days a year. One listing puts your credits in front of all of them.

Your price, your call

You set the asking price, not CTX. Change it whenever the market moves, at no extra cost.

A long track record

CTX has run carbon markets since 2008, has cleared more than one billion tonnes of CO₂e and reports no trade defaults.

How listing works

From application to first sale

You set up once. After that, listing more credits is a transfer and a price.

01

Apply

Apply online as a registered company. Small companies and project developers have one account type; large corporations and listed companies have another.

02

Verify

Send photo ID, a bank statement under three months old and your registry account details. Once approved, you receive a signed trading agreement and your access code.

03

List

Transfer the credits to CTX's account at the registry, where they are held in escrow until they sell. Then set your volume and asking price.

04

Sell and settle

A buyer pays your price. The credits go to the buyer's registry account and the proceeds come to you, on the same day.

Before you apply

What you will need to list.

Having these ready makes the checks quicker. The exact transfer steps depend on the registry your credits sit in, and our operations team will take you through them.

  • Your company details, and photo ID for the person who will trade
  • A bank statement less than three months old
  • An account at the registry that holds your credits
  • For each listing: the project number and name, the volume and your asking price

Registries and standards

Credits you can list on the exchange

CTX links directly to the registries, which is how credits move on the day of the trade. Credits from these programmes can be listed:

UNFCCC (Clean Development Mechanism) Gold Standard Global Carbon Registry BioCarbon Standard Universal Carbon Registry

Holding Verra VCS credits? Talk to the trading desk at trading@ctxexchange.com about how CTX can sell them for you.

CDM credit holders

Holding CDM credits? There is a route forward.

The Clean Development Mechanism was created under the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement is replacing it with new mechanisms under Article 6. Anyone still holding CDM credits needs somewhere they can be listed, traded and retired next.

CTX was the first commercial partner to connect with the UN's CDM registry, and it launched the ITMO Registry at COP25 in 2019. It offers CDM projects and credit holders a way to move their credits across so they stay tradeable. Eligibility, host-country authorisation and timing vary by project, so talk to us before you act.

Questions

What sellers ask before they list

Registered companies that hold certified credits: project developers selling their own issuance, and businesses or traders holding credits they have not retired. Every seller goes through our identity and bank checks before trading.

You do. Each seller sets the asking price for their own listing, and buyers see it live on the exchange. You can change it at any time, at no extra cost.

On the day of the trade. Settlement is T+0: the buyer's cash and your credits move together through the registry link, and payment to you is guaranteed.

They sit in CTX's account at the registry, held in escrow, until a buyer purchases them. Because the credits are already in place, delivery to the buyer is guaranteed the moment a trade goes through.

Credits from UNFCCC CDM, Gold Standard, Global Carbon Registry, BioCarbon and Universal Carbon Registry projects. For Verra VCS credits, talk to the trading desk. If you hold CDM credits, see our ITMO Registry page for the route forward.

Exchange members pay an annual membership, which depends on the account type, plus a commission on each sale. The full schedule is in the CTX Fee Structure, and the CTX Rules cover how listing and trading work. Corporate One accounts pay no account fee and US$0.10 per credit on each side.
